As Senior Manager, Commissioning at Switch, you will lead the commissioning function for new and upgraded critical infrastructure across Switch data centers. This role ensures electrical and mechanical systems are installed, tested, and turned over according to the Switch Commissioning Readiness Standard and QC_Cx Manual.
You will lead a team of commissioning professionals and coordinate closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams. The focus is safe execution, consistent standards, and reliable system performance. You will also drive improvements to commissioning practices to support operational reliability across the data center portfolio.
Lead commissioning activities for new and upgraded critical infrastructure across Switch facilities
Manage and develop the commissioning team and oversee third-party commissioning agents and contractors
Enforce the Switch Commissioning Readiness Standard and QC_Cx Manual across all commissioning work
Coordinate commissioning schedules with construction, engineering, contractors, and facility operations teams
Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and functional testing protocols
Validate installation and performance of electrical and mechanical systems before operational turnover
Interpret drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to verify system implementation
Coordinate with procurement and manufacturers to ensure delivered equipment meets requirements
Schedule commissioning and maintenance windows to reduce operational risk and service disruption
Ensure all commissioning work complies with safety standards, including NFPA70E and applicable regulations
Provide technical guidance on generators, transformers, UPS systems, cooling systems, and related infrastructure
Track commissioning progress and report status, risks, and outcomes to leadership
Lead assigned commissioning programs and projects to meet schedule and budget goals
Identify process improvements that increase commissioning efficiency and reduce operational risk
Support operations teams during critical commissioning phases and system turnovers
Leads teams with clear expectations, accountability, and consistent follow-through
Communicates clearly across technical and operational teams
Maintains strong attention to safety, process discipline, and risk management
Takes ownership of results and resolves issues quickly and practically
Builds productive relationships with engineering, construction, and operations teams
Focuses on solving problems and improving processes
Operates with reliability and professionalism in mission-critical environments
Supports team development and creates a safe, productive work environment
Required
Experience commissioning mission-critical facilities such as data centers or large electrical infrastructure
Experience leading commissioning teams and coordinating third-party commissioning providers
Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers, including power distribution and cooling systems
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
Experience managing complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders
Knowledge of safety practices for high-voltage electrical environments and OSHA standards
Experience using engineering or monitoring platforms such as EPMS, SCADA, or BMS systems
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Professional certifications such as Certified Commissioning Professional or Certified Data Center Professional
Experience commissioning multi-megawatt mission-critical infrastructure
