The Role: Senior Technical Program Manager – Regional Availability Engineering

As a Senior Technical Program Manager at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.

What You’ll Do

This role leads a portfolio of programs that unify Availability, Commissioning, Ops, and Design to turn events into operational and engineering improvements.

Scope of Programs

  • Post Event Action Item Closure — drive findings to closure after incidents/events and verify sustained fixes.
  • Continuous Design Improvement — ensure lessons learned during the operational cycle of a data center flow back into design standards and specifications.
  • Commissioning Handover — establish and manage the structured handover of open items and risks.
  • Event Role Definition — codify roles/responsibilities and decision paths during events.
  • Reporting & Governance — manage recurring reports and reviews that demonstrate SLA compliance to customers.

Program Leadership & Execution

  • Build and manage detailed program plans, roadmaps, and backlogs; set milestones, dependencies, and measurable outcomes. Develop dashboards and reporting.
  • Run weekly/biweekly cadences (standups, risk reviews, stakeholder syncs) and quarterly business reviews; publish clear status, decisions, and blockers.
  • Anticipate bottlenecks; drive escalation paths and tradeoffs between reliability, schedule, and cost; maintain a prioritized risk/issue register.

Post Event Action Item Closure

  • Lead event postmortems and deliver high quality Root Cause Analysis (RCA), After Action Reports (AAR) and Corrective/Preventive actions (CAPA); define owners and due dates.
  • Track action items end to end to closure.
  • Institutionalize fix forward playbooks and guardrails to avoid recurrence; integrate learnings into actions increasing awareness across regions.

Continuous Design Improvement

  • Develop and manage program FEED (Field Experience ? Engineering Design) with a target to convert operational learnings into design change proposals (DCPs) with quantified reliability/availability/cost impact; steward them through review/approval.
  • Maintain a traceable feedback pipeline from operations incidents to design standards/specifications, and track adoption across regions

Commissioning to Availability Engineering Handover

  • Define the authoritative handover package: open items, punch list, risk register, test results, waivers, as builts, and monitoring baselines.
  • Run formal handover gates (Go/No Go) with sign offs; track outstanding Cx items to closure with accountable owners and due dates.
  • Establish RACI and communication protocols between Commissioning, Availability, Operations, and vendors for post turnover support.

Event Role Definition & Incident Readiness

  • Author and maintain event RACI and decision trees; clarify Responsible/Accountable roles for containment, communications and customer updates when needed.
  • Work with Switch Mission Center to coordinate readiness activities and keep AE rosters/contact trees current.
  • Integrate with broader Incident Response plans for high impact events requiring executive involvement and external notifications.

Reporting & Governance

  • Define and maintain a database of client specific SLA metrics in terms of reporting that need to be met.
  • Publish internal dashboards; manage review cadence and audit trails; resolve data disputes promptly.
  • Drive remediation plans to meet customer needs and execute cross functional actions to restore engineering compliance.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum five years related work experience.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of energy supply contracts.
  • Exceptional data management skills with a proven ability to work with large datasets and extract actionable insights.
  • Strong project management skills; advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, and organizational skills, with the ability to resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, think creatively, and drive business teams to develop executable projects quickly.
  • Proven history of collaboration, problem-solving, and communication that supports overall team success.
