The Role: Energy Analyst
As a Capital Projects Purchasing Specialist at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.
In this role you will support daily operations in load forecasting, market analysis, and energy purchasing. This includes providing analytical support for projects and initiatives that help shape Switch’s corporate strategy around long-term power supply and sustainability plans. The work will also include a focus on the execution of short-term trading strategies and monitoring trends across multiple U.S. markets. You will work cross departmentally to build new tools, reports, and dashboards that allow for greater visibility into load forecast processes and power supply activities. As the ideal candidate, you have strong analytical skills and a passion for energy markets, looking to grow within a fast-paced organization. working with senior leadership to set up the strategy for Switch’s power procurement program going forward.
What You’ll Do
- Support the execution of physical and financial power trading strategies across multiple U.S. markets.
- Monitor real-time market conditions, price movements, and grid reliability metrics.
- Support data analysis and reporting for trading performance, risk exposure, and market trends.
- Help manage scheduling and transmission coordination through multiple market platforms (e.g., OASIS, CAISO, PJM).
- Provide detailed reporting of ongoing power supply and sustainability activity.
- Contribute to the development of trading tools, dashboard, financial reports, and provide strategic recommendations to improve financial outcomes.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that provide insights into financial results, trends, and key metrics.
- Work with cross departmental teams to create load forecasts for new and existing locations and develop tracking mechanisms and tools to continually monitor and refine load forecasts to support power supply activities.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to help develop transmission and distribution plans for new locations.
- Review and summarize utility tariffs in existing and new locations.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed to support business units with financial data and insights.
- Research the cost effectiveness and potential of new technologies for supply and demand-side energy resources.
- Interact with market participants including utilities, energy retailers, trade associations, C&I buyers, and others.
- Support and manage multiple technically complex power projects across multiple states by facilitating close collaboration between internal and external stakeholders.

What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Minimum three years related work experience.
- In-depth market knowledge of the energy sector and electric utility planning processes.
- Strong data management skills with proven ability to work with large datasets and extract actionable insights.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with at least one programming language preferred.
- Excellent analytical, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated history of collaboration, effective problem solving, and clear communication that contributes to overall team success.
