The Role: Power Load Forecasting & Planning Manager

As a Power Load Forecasting & Planning Manager at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.

In this role you will lead efforts to predict and plan for the energy requirements of Switch data centers. You will ensure accurate short-, medium-, and long-term forecasts of electrical load and cooling demand, enabling strategic capacity planning, cost optimization, and sustainability alignment. You will combine deep analytical expertise with strong knowledge of power systems, energy markets, and data center operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and refine models and collaborate with cross-functional teams to better predict data center power and cooling demand across multiple time horizons (daily, seasonal, annual, etc.)
  • Utilize metered load data, ramp-up schedules, and utilization trends to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Build relationships and engage with customers to gather data and develop better forecasting practices.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and energy teams to align forecasts with site development timelines and contracted capacity.
  • Monitor energy market trends, regulatory changes, and grid reliability factors to incorporate external drivers into forecasting assumptions.
  • Lead efforts on innovative demand response strategies and work with customers and local utilities on implementation plans.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed to support business units with financial data and insights.
  • Evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, power contracts and evaluate new energy opportunities and technologies.
  • Build relationships with industry stakeholders, such as utilities, regional power planning agencies, renewable project developers, project investors, etc.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Minimum five years related work experience
  • Deep market knowledge of the data center and energy sectors, as well as electric utility planning processes.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (required).
  • Experience with at least one programming language (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, think creatively, and drive business teams to rapidly develop executable projects.
  • Proven history of collaboration, problem-solving, and communication that contributes to overall team success.
