The Role: Field Services Engineer Apprentice

As a Field Services Engineer Apprentice at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.

In this role you are responsible for learning and supporting the field engineering team.  An apprentice Field Services Engineer is an entry-level trainee participating in a program to learn the concepts and skills necessary to become a full-time Field Services Engineer.  As an apprentice, you will receive a combination of classroom type education and on-the-job experience. Skills that are typically covered in these programs include how to design, install, repair and maintain electromechanical systems as well as working directly with onsite GC’s to review and support the installation of systems under the group’s roles of responsibility. You will work under the observation of a journey-level engineer, building basic skills and gaining additional tasks and responsibilities as they improve.

What You’ll Do

  • Under supervision meet with GC and subcontractors, go through all plans and verify build from the owner’s perspective.
  • Provide support for LAS15 EVO Lab space as needed per system buildout and design implementation/changes.
  • Assist construction CM/PMs with specific Hardware design and integration installs.
  • Act as a technical escalation SME for construction issues and ensure effective resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales, Engineering, Product Development, and Customer Support to ensure alignment and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), service metrics, and customer feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with cleanliness and safety in all field operations.
  • Responsible for hardware and equipment validation, coordination, and execution of field services operations.

What You'll Bring

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal communication skills; the ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively with personnel associated with the data center environment.
  • Ability to identify problems, suggest solutions, and make independent decisions with good judgment and minimal guidance.
  • A strong understanding of safety requirements related to the construction field. 
  • The ability and willingness to engage in learning sessions outside a normal workday schedule.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead with confidence plus clear, concise communication.
  • The ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades in the data center environment.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Desire to learn how to read blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Excellent presentation and customer service skills.
  • A minimum of 1+ years’ experience in maintenance, operations or apprentice level Construction roles.
  • Reliable transportation and a state issued driver’s license is a must for this position.
