Technical Program Manager – Data Center Project Execution

The Role: Technical Program Manager

As a Technical Program Manager at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.

In this role you will work with cross-functional teams to drive the implementation, program management, and deployment of data center projects. This role is essential in providing leadership, organization, and effective program management, contributing to the successful and efficient completion of the project and the long-term reliability of the data center infrastructure

What You’ll Do:

Project Planning

  • You will develop comprehensive project plans outlining tasks, timelines, and dependencies and work closely with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.

Turnover and Handover Process

  • During the turnover and commissioning process your direction and oversight will ensure all systems (electrical, mechanical, IT, etc.) are thoroughly tested, operational, and in accordance with client expectations before handover.
  • Your leadership and oversight will ensure the final inspections, certifications, and documentation required for occupancy permits and signoffs are coordinated and completed.
  • You will develop and maintain comprehensive delivery checklists to guarantee smooth and timely project handovers.

Stakeholder Management

  • You will build and maintain strong relationships with cross functional teams, ensuring all client requirements and expectations are understood and met throughout the construction process.
  • You will facilitate regular meetings and status updates with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment.
  • You will develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring adherence to deadlines. Proactively identify and address delays to keep the project on track.
  • You will also proactively address client concerns and implement solutions to maintain customer satisfaction.

Risk Management

  • You are expected to identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the construction and delivery process to prevent delays and financial impacts.
  • You will also implement contingency plans when necessary and ensure issues are escalated and resolved in a timely manner.

Reporting

  • You will be expected to provide regular progress reports to leadership and clients facing departments, highlighting key milestones, issues, and resolutions.

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • You will collaborate with internal teams, including design/engineering, commissioning, and operations, to ensure a seamless transition from construction to operations.
  • You will also coordinate with external contractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure they meet delivery timelines and quality standards.

Change Management and Oversight

  • You will be expected to manage change events as it pertains to delivery budgets and timelines and ensure all costs are tracked and aligned with project financial goals.
  • You will also manage impacts to schedule as change events present and surface for the project and ensure internal teams, client, and leadership are aligned on revised expectations for delivery.

What You’ll Bring

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple aspects of project delivery.
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments with tight deadlines.
  • Adept at conflict resolution and proactive in anticipating and solving project challenges.
  • Knowledge of local building codes, industry standards, and safety regulations specific to data centers.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Project or other project management software. Advanced skills in other Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Procore strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering or business discipline or equivalent experience in related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years working in a construction project management role with a focus on data centers or other critical facilities.
