About Switch
At Switch, we don’t just design, build and operate data centers—we are enabling the technology of the future. Led by Founder & CEO, Rob Roy, we believe in revolutionary innovation, operational excellence and the principle of karma. Switch is where talented people come together to EVOLVE the digital world.
We believe that innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about the people, culture, and purpose that make it happen. Every Switch team member contributes to a mission greater than themselves: to create the world’s most advanced digital infrastructure that powers the progress of humanity.
The Role: Alarm Systems Engineer
As an Alarm Systems Engineer at Switch, you will help establish and evolve the future of alarm management across one of the world's most advanced mission-critical environments. This role sits at the intersection of operations, engineering, technology, and service management, ensuring alarms are designed, implemented, validated, and maintained in a way that supports effective operational response.
As the first dedicated Alarm Systems Engineer within Mission Control, you will play a foundational role in launching and advancing Switch's Alarm Management Program. You will drive alarm rationalization efforts, support development of the Master Alarm Database (MADB), validate alarm performance, and help ensure alarms effectively support situational awareness, incident response, and operational decision-making.
This is a unique opportunity to build something from the ground up while influencing how critical facilities are monitored and operated for years to come.
What You’ll Do:
Lead and support alarm rationalization efforts across Power and Environmental systems to improve alarm quality, consistency, and operational effectiveness.
Help establish and maintain the Master Alarm Database (MADB), ensuring alarm information remains accurate, actionable, and aligned with business and operational requirements.
Collaborate with operational, engineering, and technical stakeholders to ensure alarms are properly defined, configured, documented, tested, and integrated into operational workflows.
Validate alarm behavior through testing and acceptance activities to ensure alarms function as intended before being placed into production.
Support implementation and ongoing maturation of Switch's Alarm Philosophy and Alarm Management Program.
Analyze alarm performance data and identify opportunities to reduce nuisance alarms, alarm floods, standing alarms, and other conditions that negatively impact operations.
Ensure alarm workflows effectively support operator response, incident management, operational readiness, and service restoration objectives.
Partner with teams responsible for monitoring, automation, workflow management, and operational tooling to improve alarm visibility, routing, and actionability.
Develop testing methodologies, documentation standards, and repeatable processes supporting alarm lifecycle management and continual improvement initiatives.
Act as an advocate for alarm quality and operational effectiveness by helping teams identify and resolve issues before they impact customers, services, or operations
What We’re Looking For:
Someone who enjoys solving complex operational problems and is energized by improving systems, processes, and outcomes.
A naturally curious individual who wants to understand how systems work, why alarms behave the way they do, and how operational performance can be improved.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to investigate issues, identify patterns, and drive solutions across multiple teams.
An individual who values accuracy, accountability, and validation over assumptions.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to build relationships across technical and operational disciplines.
Experience working in mission-critical, operational technology, facilities, industrial, engineering, reliability, monitoring, or related technical environments.
A continuous improvement mindset that challenges ineffective practices and seeks better ways of working.
The ability to balance technical detail with operational impact and understand how technology decisions influence frontline operations.
Someone who is hungry to learn, humble enough to listen, and smart enough to navigate complex technical and organizational challenges.
A builder who is excited by the opportunity to help create and shape a new program rather than simply maintain an existing one.
