The Role: Senior Manager of Commissioning - West

As a Senior Manager of Commissioning - West, you will lead the commissioning function for new and upgraded critical infrastructure across Switch data centers in the western United States. This role is responsible for ensuring electrical and mechanical systems are installed, tested, commissioned, and turned over in accordance with the Switch Commissioning Readiness Standard and QC_Cx Manual.

You will lead a team of commissioning professionals while partnering with Construction, Engineering, Operations, and third-party commissioning providers to deliver reliable, mission-critical infrastructure. Your focus will be on safe execution, consistent standards, operational readiness, and continuous improvement across commissioning programs.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the commissioning process for new and upgraded critical infrastructure across Switch facilities.

  • Manage and develop a commissioning team while overseeing third-party commissioning agents and contractors.

  • Enforce the Switch Commissioning Readiness Standard and QC_Cx Manual across all commissioning activities.

  • Coordinate commissioning work with Construction, Engineering, Operations, contractors, and facility teams.

  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, functional testing protocols, and execution strategies.

  • Review electrical and mechanical systems to verify proper installation, functionality, and operational readiness before turnover.

  • Interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to validate the commissionability of critical infrastructure.

  • Partner with Procurement and equipment manufacturers to ensure delivered equipment meets quality and performance requirements.

  • Schedule commissioning activities and maintenance windows to minimize operational risk and business disruption.

  • Ensure commissioning activities comply with NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, and all applicable codes, standards, and company policies.

  • Provide technical leadership for the commissioning and operation of generators, transformers, UPS systems, electrical distribution equipment, cooling systems, and related infrastructure.

  • Oversee the development and execution of commissioning plans, integrated systems testing, and load bank testing.

  • Track commissioning progress and communicate project status, risks, and key milestones to senior leadership.

  • Lead assigned commissioning programs and projects, ensuring delivery on schedule and within budget.

  • Identify opportunities to improve commissioning processes, increase operational efficiency, and reduce project risk.

  • Support Operations during commissioning, startup, integrated systems testing, and final system turnover.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Significant experience commissioning mission-critical facilities such as data centers, utility infrastructure, or large-scale electrical systems.

  • Experience leading commissioning teams and coordinating third-party commissioning providers.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers, including power distribution and cooling infrastructure.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.

  • Experience managing complex technical projects involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements, NFPA 70E, and electrical safety practices.

  • Experience using engineering, monitoring, or controls platforms such as EPMS, SCADA, or BMS systems.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), or similar industry credentials.

  • Experience commissioning multi-megawatt mission-critical infrastructure.
